Scholars Bowl Wins Regionals and Advances to State
Congratulations to the Scholars Bowl Team on winning regionals on Feb. 4.  The Grizzlies went 9-1 and defeated a tough East and Derby team to bring home the trophy.  They will compete  at the State Tournament in Manhattan, KS on Saturday, Feb. 13.  Team members were Marie Altgilbers, Mason Gibson, Whitney Clum, Emily Dulohery, Catherine Sutton, Chris Kliewer, Michael Altgilbers, and Megan Altgilbers. Good luck at state scholars bowlers!

Northwest DECA - Fuel Up to Play 60

Students in Northwest’s DECA class are promoting the importance of exercise and healthy eating habits. The students, in coordination with the National Football League, is conducting a Fuel Up to Play 60 campaign, encouraging elementary and middle school students to eat nutritious food and to be active at least 60 minutes a day. The students have conducted several nutrition and exercise-related activities at McCollom Elementary and Wilbur Middle School to spread the word.
Vice Mayor James Clendenin visited Northwest to issue a proclamation declaring January 23 as Fuel Up To Play 60 Day in Wichita. Also on January 23, the DECA team will have an information booth at the Wichita Thunder Hockey game along with conducting other in-game promotions of the Fuel Up to Play 60 program.
The Fuel Up to Play 60 program, sponsored by the National Football League and the Midwest Dairy Council, encourages students to be active at least 60 minutes per day and to eat healthy foods.

Outstanding Science Educator
Crystal Kerr, science teacher at Northwest High School, was presented the Outstanding Science Educator Award by Wichita State University’s Chapter of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Honor Society. She was honored for not only being a high-quality teacher at Northwest, but also for bringing science lessons into the community. Kerr monthly hosts Science Cafés at the Donut Whole, to allow the public to learn about science and how it impacts their lives.

99% Award Winner
Congratulations to Branden Ho for being selected as our 99% award winner. He
represented NW at the BOE 99% Award recognition ceremony last Monday.  The 99% Awards recognize middle school and high school students who are making a contribution to their school and serve as a role model to their peers, but who may not be getting the recognition they deserve for doing the right thing. They represent more than 99% of the students in the Wichita Public Schools.​

Prom Information
The prom theme this year is Masquerade Ball, with colors of black and gold, and will be held downtown at the Scottish Rite on Saturday, April 2 from 8 – 11 pm.  Tickets will go on sale the week before prom.  Masks must be removed briefly while you check in that night.
