MISS KANSAS TEEN USA PAGEANT The 2009 Miss Kansas Teen USA Pageant will be held at the lied Center on the University of Kansas campus in Lawrence on December 19-21, 2008. Entrants must be single, never given birth, a U.S. citizen and at least a six-month resident of Kansas. Entrants are judged in three equal categories consisting of personality interviews, physical fitness in swimsuit, and poise and beauty in evening gown. Talent IS NOT a requirement. The pageant winner will receive a prize package that includes cash, wardrobe and travel. She will also receive a college scholarship valued at $57,600 to Lindenwood University in St. Louis, Missouri. KANSAS INDEPENDENT COLLEGE WEEK 18 Kansas independent colleges are hosting Kansas Private College Week on their campuses, June 2 - 6. This program their effort to acquaint high school students with their colleges through a hands-on summer campus experience that introduces them to the colleges' people, programs and facilities. K- STATE JUNIOR DAYS Junior Days at KSU are set for the following dates: April 21, and May 5. This is an excellent chance for juniors to learn more about the opportunities and programs available on the K-State campus. Students will meet with academic advisors and hear information about financial assistance, fraternities, sororites, and residence halls. A campus tour and lunch in the residence hall dining centers are also planned. The program will run 9:00 a.m. till 4:00 p.m. RSVP on the website www.k-state.edu or call 800-432-8270. USAF ACADEMY SUMMER SEMINAR The United States Air Force Academy offers a unique opportunity to see a realistic picture of what cadet life is about. The week long seminar will give students a very clear understanding of the commitment neccessary to attend the U.S. Air Force Academy and to become an Air Force officer. KANSAS INVESTMENT DEVELOPING SCHOLARS (K.I.D.S)
K.I.D.S. is a newly established program at the Kansas State Treasurer's office. It's purpose is to help lower income families save for their children's post-secondary education. You can download the application form at http://www.KansasStateTreasurer.com/kids.

High School juniors
Pratt CC is offering online classes for high school students at the cost of $54 per credit hour. ACT--The ACT test should be taken in the spring of your junior year. Students who are interested in attending a regent college (Emporia State University, Fort Hays State University, Kansas State University, University of Kansas, Pittsburg State University, and Wichita State University) must receive a 21 or higher on their ACT test or graduate in the top third of their graduating class or take the regent curriculum and have a minimum GPA of 2.0 for admission. PREP AT WICHITA STATE UNIVERSITY WSU is offering ACT Prep workshops throughout the year to help students prepare for the ACT. Cost of the workshop is $28.00 and you must see Mrs. Adams for registration paperwork. The workshops will be held from 8 - noon on the following dates: May 10, and August 2nd.
WICHITA STATE UNIVERSITY - $48,000 DSI SCHOLARSHIP Attention juniors: Do you have a 3.5 GPA and a 24 composite ACT score? If you have both of these requirements you will be eligible to compete for the WSU Distinguished Scholarship Invitational held in November of senior year. The DSI is one of the premiere leadership scholarship competitions in the country. Through this competition, over $1 million in scholarships are awarded, including two $48,000 Harry Gore Memorial Scholarships (the largest undergraduate scholarships in the state of Kansas). To be considered students must be admitted to WSU by October 10th. They must receive your application, $30 application fee, high school transcript that validates your GPA and ACT scores. MISS TEEN KANSAS INTERNATIONAL 2008 Applications are not being accepted for the title of Miss Teen Kansas International 2008, an official preliminary to the Miss Teen International Pageant that will be held at the North Shore Performing Arts Center in Chicago, Illinois. The dates are July 21st - July 26th 2008. The young woman selected as Miss Teen Kansas Internationals 2008 will serve as an ambassador for Kansas and receive an official crown and sash along with prizes and cash. Competition will include; Private Interview 40%, Fitness Wear 20%, Fashion Wear 20%, Evening Gown 20%. Women between the ages of 13 - 18 that are interested should call Mary Richardson at 540-989-5992.

ALEXANDER HAMILTON CITIZENSHIP ACHIEVEMENT AWARD - $500 CASH SCHOLARSHIP To be eligible for this award the candidate must have performed leadership and service activities after January 1, 2007 and be a current junior in high school. NROTC $180,000 SCHOLARSHIP
The Navy Scholarship Program is offering a four years of paid college tuition scholarship for students interested in becoming Naval Officers. All mandatory fees, uniforms, etc. are paid for. You select the college major. There is no obligation to serve until after freshmen year of college. Applicants must meet the minimum test requirements: ACT: Minimum 22 Math, 22 English, with a combined 49 composite score. Instant Selection - ACT total of 57 with a minimum 29 math score. OKLAHOMA CITY UNIVERSITY - ONLINE CLASS
After completion of junior year in high school students can enroll in an online 10 week sociology course through Okalahoma City University. The cost of the course is $300. Students will complete weekly online assignments, reading and a term project. Students completing the course will receive thee hours of undergraduate college credit. Students must submit the following: An official high school transcript with ACT score; letter of recommendation from school counselor; letter from the applicant's parent stating endorsing early entrance into college; letter from the student stating why he/she feels ready for college work prior to graduating from high school. Additionally, student must complete an application for admission and include a $30 application fee. CSI BETHANY COLLEGE July 8 - 12 Bethany College is hosting summer camp for high school students interested in crime scene investigation. This program is sponsored by the Criminal Justice Department of Bethany. Cost is $325 and includes hosing in residence halls, meals, study materials and book. Attendance is limited. MIZZOU ENGINEERING The University of Missouri-Columbia would like to invite high school sophomores and juniors in the top 25% of their class to attend Mizzou Engineering Summer Camp. There will be two 6-day sessions scheduled for the following dates: July 8-13 or July 22-27. Applicants should have completed one or more laboratory science courses and at least two units of high school mathematics. Enrollment is limited to 40 students per session. Cost is $300.
