Grades for flags:
Team members will be graded on the basis of attendance, preparation, and effort. Perfect attendance of practices and performances is considered the norm.
Each practice during band class is worth 8 points.
Daily Infractions
Missing equipment=6pts
Tardy (less than 10 mins)=3pts
Tardy (more than 10 mins)=4pts
no notebook=3pts
Inappropriate dress=3pts
Each football and soccer game is worth 30 points. Band-O-Rama is worth 40 points. * Other miscellaneous performances are worth 30 point.*
Attendance Policy:
To be excused, a daily absence must meet the Northwest High School handbook policy found in student's agenda. If a team member is sick, Mrs. Sissell will need a note from a doctor or parent/guardian. If a team member must meet with a teacher and another time cannot be arranged, Mrs. Sissell must be notified at least 12 hours advance- call her the night before, if necessary.
Tardy Policy:
All aspects of a practice session are important. Therefore, if a team member does not arrive with proper equipment by the designated time, she/he will be considered tardy. Likewise, all team members must be on the practice field by 6:15 p.m. before football games.
Miscellaneous:
The following behaviors will result in 20 crunches each at the next practice following the infraction:
Disrespect towards sponsor and/or teammates
Flagrant cursing
Negativity
Refusal to follow instructions
Wearing entire or parts of performance uniform at inappropriate times
Allowing no-team members to "play" with performance equipment
Abusing performance equipment (i.e. trying moves that are not apart of a routine, handling equipment inappropriately, walking on equipment, etc)
Putting personal belongings (except performance uniform) in uniform room
Failing to change your flag immediately following a performance
Letter Requirements:
Team member will exemplify excellence on and off the field
Team members will maintain an A in band both nine-week periods
Team Duties:
In order for the team to function efficiently, each member will have assigned duties.
Captains are chosen on the basis of their experience, leadership abilities, and personal responsibility. It is referable that they be juniors or seniors the year that they serve. It will be the decision of the sponsor how the captains are/are not selected.
Encourage and acquaint themselves with all team members.
Provide assistance to the sponsor in many capacities during practices.
Take roll and/or lead stretching and warm-up at the beginning of each practice.
Make sure that all equipment is returned to its proper place in the uniform room and that the room remains clean.
Create pep routines, including those performed at soccer games and pep assemblies.
Call team members with practice cancellations or other news as necessary.
Conduct uniform inspections before each performance.
Be an example to the team of rigorous practice and flawless precision, poise, and punctuality.
Other duties are available to any member willing to fulfill them, or to whomever the sponsor assigns them.
Team members (2) whose parents bring food on the night of a football game will be responsible for preparing the tables, drinks, etc. for the meals that evening.
Two team members will be responsible for cleaning up after each meal.
Two people will be responsible for reading the chalkboard in the band room everyday we have practice and report any information pertinent to the flag team.
It is the duty of all team members to help the sponsor and other team members in any other way.
